About

Chinarchy is a travel and general interest blog written by two guys, Anderson and McCoy, living in China. The topics focus mostly on Chinese culture and our experiences while living here for the next year. There will also be a lot of posts related to our interests in philosophy, psychology and entertainment. We want to respond to our readers’ interests, so if there is something specific you’d like us to write about please let us know.

Anonymity

Despite having told myself I would never write anonymously, the practical requirements of living and working in China have changed my mind. The Chinese government is well known for censoring websites and even imprisoning writers, journalists and bloggers whose work they consider subversive. This is probably a minor risk; I can only hope Chinarchy would become popular enough (and subversive enough) to warrant the Chinese state’s attention.

A greater risk would be losing our jobs. Both McCoy and I have signed contracts that can be terminated if we do anything our employer doesn’t really like. They probably won’t like this blog. So for the sake of keeping our jobs (and keeping out of a Chinese prison) we have decided to write anonymously. You probably know who both of us are, and thats fine, but please try to avoid using our real names in comments, links, tweets or anything else that mentions Chinarchy.
